Testing for this year’s British Superbike Championship gets underway in Spain today with a packed two-week testing schedule kicking off at Almeria.
Four times British Champion Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne heads the entry list for the first three-day test at the Andalucian circuit and is joined by PBM team mates Stuart Easton and Ian Hutchinson.
Lee Jackson also joins the Almeria test with Buildbase BMW but notably absent is 2015 runner-up Ryuichi Kiyonari, who couldn’t make it to Europe on time after experiencing problems getting his visa.
Also at Almeria is the Quattro Plant Kawasaki duo of Howie Mainwaring and Luke Mossey, Morello Racing’s Victor Cox and Daniel Johnson
After the three days in Almeria, testing moves north to Cartagena with PBM joined by Halsall Suzuki, GBmoto Kawasaki, Tyco BMW, Moto Rapido Ducati and Be Wiser Kawasaki amongst others before moving inland to Guadix at the start of next week.
Josh Brookes and Broc Parkes will get a first taste of their Milwaukee Yamaha R1 race bikes at a Yamaha Europe test at Alcarass on Tuesday.
Honda Racing’s Dan Linfoot, Jason O’Halloran and Jenny Tinmouth will join roads riders John McGuinness and Conor Cummins plus Honda’s Endurance riders at Monteblanco to round off the two weeks testing.
Teams will then return to the UK for the official British Superbike test at Donington Park on March 26 ahead of the season starting at the Leicestershire circuit on Easter weekend.
