BikingMilbank BikeSocial Consumer Editor, John owns a KTM 1050 Adventure. He's as happy tinkering in the workshop as he is on twisty, bumpy backroads, and loves every bike ever built (except one). He's bought three CBR600s, two Ducati Monsters, several winter hacks, three off-roaders, a supermoto pit bike, a Honda Vision 50 and built his own custom XSR700.

Do you remember your first experience of biking? After completing their CBTs, we gave a group of new riders their first taste of the freedom offered by biking.

According to a study in Belgium, if just 10% of drivers switched to motorcycles, congestion would be reduced by a whopping 40%. Data from Spain and France has also clearly shown that the more scooters, mopeds and motorcycles are on the roads, the safer they are – drivers in the UK are relatively unaccustomed to seeing bikes around them, so the chance of hearing “Sorry mate, I didn’t see you”, is more likely here than on the busy streets around the Mediterranean.

We’d love to hear about your first experience of biking – please do comment below. And if you’ve never been out on one before, why not grab a ride on a friend’s bike or visit wwwgeton.co.uk.

What was your first biking experience?

That moment when... you've passed your CBT and get out on a bike for the first time.
