BikingMilbank BikeSocial Consumer Editor, John owns a BMW S1000XR and Honda Grom. He's as happy tinkering in the workshop as he is on twisty backroads, and loves every bike ever built (except one). He's bought three CBR600s, a KTM 1050 Adventure, Yamaha MT-10, two Ducati Monsters, several winter hacks, three off-roaders, a supermoto pit bike, a Honda Vision 50 and built his own custom XSR700.

Do you remember your first experience of biking? After completing their CBTs, we gave a group of new riders their first taste of the freedom offered by biking.

According to a study in Belgium, if just 10% of drivers switched to motorcycles, congestion would be reduced by a whopping 40%. Data from Spain and France has also clearly shown that the more scooters, mopeds and motorcycles are on the roads, the safer they are – drivers in the UK are relatively unaccustomed to seeing bikes around them, so the chance of hearing “Sorry mate, I didn’t see you”, is more likely here than on the busy streets around the Mediterranean.

We’d love to hear about your first experience of biking – please do comment below. And if you’ve never been out on one before, why not grab a ride on a friend’s bike or visit wwwgeton.co.uk.

What was your first biking experience?

That moment when... you've passed your CBT and get out on a bike for the first time.
