Goodwood Revival – Rider Entry List & TV Times

2021 Goodwood Revival Preview_002

This weekend in deepest West Sussex, located at the famous and historic Goodwood Motor Circuit, is the wonderfully eccentric Goodwood Revival, and here’s all you need to know.

What’s it all about?

Everything goes retro at the annual event (though last year’s version was postponed because of the global pandemic), and although it’s mostly a car and memorabilia racing event, bikes still feature prominently on and around the 2.37-mile circuit. The whole paddock goes back to the swinging sixties and anyone not in period clothing will be the odd one out.

When do the bikes race?

Racing stars past and present from the classic scene, TT, British Superbikes and World Superbikes are in two-rider teams as they battle over two twenty-five minute races for the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy.

Practice takes place on Friday at 10.30am with the first race on Saturday at 11.00am then part two on Sunday at 9.45am. It’s a Le Mans style start whereby riders run across the track to their waiting machines and includes a compulsory pit-stop.

Rider Entry List 2021

There’ll be inter-championship battles with the likes of the Isle of Man TT top men eyeing each other up with Peter Hickman, Dean Harrison, Michael Dunlop and John McGuinness among them. Then there’s Josh Brookes, Tommy Bridewell and Hickman representing the BSB Showdown competitors, while some of the more experienced riders will be keen to rub elbows once more as Steve Parrish, Troy Corser, Jeremy McWilliams and Michael Rutter bring plenty of race craft.

Of the thirty machines on the entry list, all of which date from 1959 – 1967, the Manx Norton seems the favoured motorcycle with more than half the grid opting for the single-cylinder racer. The fast Aermacchi raced by Mark Linton and Alan Cathcart will be one to watch, as will the £1/2m MV Agusta 500/3 (which will sound glorious) ridden by Mick Grant and Gary Johnson.

Look out for our own racing and road test contributor, Adam ‘Chad’ Child, on board the no.17 Manx Norton with TT winner, James Hillier, as his team-mate.

What else is happening?

There’s much more to the Revival than star-studded classic bike racing. Held annually since 1998, the Revival is the world’s largest historic motor racing and vintage culture event with around 150,000 people, many in period clothing to give added authenticity, attending over its three days to enjoy its uniquely retro atmosphere thanks not just to the classic bikes and cars but retro events and entertainments, special retro shops and stalls and more all giving off a classic 1940s-‘60s atmosphere.

Click here for the full entry list across the 16 races.

Are there any tickets left?

The whole event begins this Friday 17th September concluding on Sunday 19th. Tickets for all three days are still available from £25. For more information, including booking tickets, head to the official Goodwood Revival website.
