McGuinness leads on track but Anstey is the fastest

Bruce Anstey has once again topped the timesheets in practice for this year’s Isle of Man TT. The New Zealander was fastest in the opening practice with a 127mph but upped the game on Tuesday, setting a near 131mph lap ahead of John McGuinness and Guy Martin. Anstey is the only rider to have set a 130mph lap so far this year, with second placed McGuinness on a 129.395. Once again the leading newcomer was Peter Hickman, who lapped the 37.73mph course with an average speed of 119.684mph.

James Hillier set the fastest time out of the Superstock pack with a respectable 126.243mph lap ahead of the BMWs of Michael Dunlop and Michael Rutter. In the Supersport class, Lee Johnston set an impressive 123.804 on his CBR600RR ahead of Smiths Triumph’s pairing of Gary Johnson and Michael Rutter.

After the cancellation of Saturday’s qualifying, the opening session for the Bikenation.co.uk lightweight category got underway tonight. Ivan Lintin led the pack on his Kawasaki 650 with a lap of 117.297mph ahead of Keith Amor and James Cowton. Olie Linsdell had an impressive first outing on the Paton S1, setting the fourth fastest time with an average speed of 114.950mph.

The evening's side car session was red-flagged and subsequently abandoned after an incident at Kerrowmoar.

Third practice for the Superbike, Superstock and Supersport bikes will take place Wednesday evening.
