When is the Isle of Man TT in 2022?

The Isle of Man TT next year will take place from Sunday 29th May to Friday 10th June 2022.

The last official race around the TT course was the Senior Manx GP on 29th August 2019. The next time the course will be closed to TT competitors will be 29th May 2022 for the first practice session; that’s a gap of 33 months, or 1004 days. Many will be rusty, many will be frustrated and for those waiting to make their debut in 2020, they will be just as eager as the returning headline acts such as Hickman, Harrison, Dunlop and McGuinness.

The two-week TT is traditionally held annually during the final week of May (practice/qualifying) and first week of June (racing), will be back in 2022 after a three-year hiatus courtesy of the COVID19 pandemic… and we cannot wait.

Practice and qualifying sessions are split with the relevant classes from the solo classes such as Superbike, Superstock, Supersport and Supertwins (aka Lightweight) as well as the sidecars. These sessions allow the riders to get familiar with their machines and the course conditions which will be especially useful when the riders and teams return after being away for so long. The riders are started in a 2 x 2 format at 10 second intervals often from the end of pit lane or directly from parc fermé.

Meanwhile, the races see competitors set-off individually at 10 second intervals from the start/finish line on the Glencrutchery Road.

Six solo races and two sidecar races make up race week which begins between the middle Saturday of the two weeks with the six-lap Superbike TT and the first of two three-lap sidecar races, then alternate days until the culmination, the big one that all solo rider want to win, the Senior TT, held over six laps on the final Friday.

Once we’re back to the TT, the new schedule will include a warm-up lap ahead of each race allowing competitors to get familiar with their machines and the conditions that’ll great them in the race. After all, weather plays an almighty part at the Isle of Man TT and when riders are hurtling down Bray Hill at maximum speed just seconds after being waved away, this additional lap seems like a sensible move.
