Sykes has been dropped from BT Sport's coverage

BT Sport has this evening confirmed that Melanie Sykes will no longer form part of their MotoGP coverage. The presenter was notably absent from coverage of the French Grand Prix two weeks ago, raising questions of the former Boddingtons babe’s future with BT Sport.

The day-time TV presenter struggled to hit it off with the MotoGP fans in the first four rounds and never seemed to be wholly comfortable anchoring BT Sport’s studio coverage. BT Sport claim the split was because of Sykes’ alternative commitments meaning she could not fulfil her role to the extent BT Sport required.

A statement released by BT reads: “We regret to say that Mel Sykes will no longer be a part of the presenting team on MotoGP for BT Sport.  BT Sport’s approach is to operate a team of presenters and experts who work across both live and magazine programmes.  Mel has other broadcasting commitments which prevent her from being able to do this and as a result working across BT Sport MotoGP programming is no longer viable. We wish Mel all the best in the future.”

Craig Doyle, one of BT Sport’s rugby team is tipped to become more involved with the coverage in place of Sykes. Doyle currently presents BT Sport’s MotoGP magazine show, ‘MotoGP tonight’ and filled in for Sykes on the Sunday at Le Mans.
