Marc Marquez: The Record Book

Author: Bike Social Sports Reporter Posted: 14 Oct 2014

Marc Marquez’ story begins in the Spanish town of Lleida, where on 17th February 1993 his mother gave birth to her first-born. Now 21 years old, that son is a multiple Grand Prix World Champion.

Riding motorcycles from the age of four, Marquez has already enjoyed a remarkable career. It wasn’t easy for the Spaniard, who had a tough time joining the 125cc World Championship with KTM in 2007 after just one season riding in the Spanish CEV series. In this era, KTM was far from the most competitive machine but Marquez showed signs of brilliance aboard the bike, taking a podium at the British Grand Prix in his first season becoming the youngest ever rider to stand on a Grand Prix podium.

Marquez graduated to top class machinery in 2010 with Ajo Motorsport aboard a Derbi. This time, on equal machinery to his rivals, he really showed his potential. The Spaniard stormed to ten victories that season to take his first ever World Title at the age of 17.

He stepped up to the Moto2 class the following year and despite a rocky start, which saw the youngster crash out of the opening three races, he ended up challenging for the title. In fact Marquez would achieve one of two results in 2010, he’d either be on the podium, or he’d crash. He’d have probably won the title had he not ended his season early crashing in qualifying in Malaysia.

Returning to Moto2 the following year, Marquez meant business and taking six wins and finishing on the podium in every race he finished, he went on to take the title from Pol Espargaro before graduating to MotoGP in 2013.

We all know what happened next; 17 victories, 28 podiums and two world titles later, Marc Marquez has re-written the history books. Here we compile the very long list of records the Spanish Wonderkid now has to his name…
