Kiyonari will switch to BMW power for 2014

Ryuichi Kiyonari will make a shock switch to BMW as he remains in British Superbikes for the 2014 season. The three-time champion endured a torrid season this year, making it on to the podium just five times and despite scraping into the showdown he missed the last five races following a shoulder injury.

Kiyonari was a strong force in British Superbikes from 2005-2007, winning the championship twice. After a brief foray in the World Superbike series Kiyonari returned to Britain to take the title once again in 2010. Since then we’ve only seen the former champion take two race wins and a handful of podiums.

The move to BMW will see the thirty-one year old race non-Honda machinery for the first time in his career partnering fellow 2013 showdown contender James Westmoreland in Stuart Hicken’s Buildbase BMW squad.
