Laverty says the bike now feels his own

Eugene Laverty has said his Honda MotoGP bike is beginning to feel his own after the second Sepang test this week.

The former World Superbike star joins the Aspar Honda team this season riding the upgraded RC213V-RS production racer. Riding the bike for the first time in Sepang earlier this month, the Irishman realised just how big a task jumping up to Grand Prix racing is.

Having now spent six days riding the new RC213V-RS, Laverty is beginning to feel at home. His fastest time of 2.01.815 places him 23rd on the timesheet and just a second behind his teammate, 2006 World Champion Nicky Hayden.

“To compare these three days with the three days at Sepang 1, this was much more positive” he said speaking to reporters. “We didn’t move my position on the bike, I’m in the right place now and feel like it’s my bike. We’ve been working on the settings, electronics and suspensions. We made one big step in braking on the second day and made another good step on the final day in turning, so step by step we’re getting there.

“The results of this test here give us cause for optimism. We have made quite a lot of progress, we still have a lot of work ahead but every time I ride the bike I feel that we are more prepared and I'm looking forward now to travelling to Qatar and continuing to work."

Pre-season testing resumes in Qatar between 15-16 March ahead of the season gets underway at the Losail Circuit on March 26th
