For a full explanation of the showdown rules, click the following link: showdown rules, but put simply, to keep the championship alive right to the final round, the top six riders at the showdown date are given 500 points plus bonus points for podium finishes during the season. This closes any massive gaps between the leader and the chasing pack, but also rewards the rider's performance during the season.
