Jake Dixon 2017 Showdown

Leon Haslam wins race one of the weekend at Oulton Park and takes a 12-point lead in the championship.

Drama began before racing even got underway, with Jake Dixon starting from pit lane. The Lee Hardy Racing rider crashed in morning warm up and the team were unable to get the bike ready in time for the formation laps.

It was Dan Linfoot who took the holeshot into the first corner and looked set to take his second British Superbike race win of his career, until a technical issue with his Honda just four laps to go would bring out the red flags.

This left Leon Haslam to take his fifth race win of the season, followed by John Hopkins (second) and Josh Brookes (third).

Jake Dixon rode an incredible race to finish fourth after his pit lane start, followed by McAMS Yamaha riders James Ellison (fifth) and Michael Laverty (sixth).

Bradley Ray, Peter Hickman, Shane Byrne and Jason O’Halloran rounded out the top ten.

After the race Leon said: “I felt comfortable in the early stages of that race and just concentrated on being in front of my showdown rivals.”

“I started to use Hopkins ahead of me as a marker. I knew I couldn’t catch Linfoot so once I caught Hopkins I just took my time to make the pass. I was happy enough with second, so to take the race win is just great.”
