Shane Byrne will start tomorrow's first race in fourth

Shane Byrne remains confident ahead of tomorrow’s British Superbike races despite missing out on the front row in qualifying at Silverstone.

The four-time champion concluded the final qualifying session 0.3 seconds off polesitter and main rival Leon Haslam and will start his first race on Ducati’s Panigale R from fourth position.

While he admits being disappointed to miss out on the front row, he’s confident his pace over race distance is faster than over a couple of flying laps.

“I’m a little bit disappointed,” he said speaking to Bike Social at Silverstone. “I’m really pleased with the team and the effort they’ve made but I’d have liked to have been on the front row!

“We spent our whole winter testing programme working on race pace and being consistent and to be honest that’s the first time I’ve gone out and properly attacked it looking for a lap time. For our first crack, fourth place 0.3 tenths off is pretty good and I think our race pace is stronger than our qualifying.”
