Casey Stoner clinched his fourth victory from six starts at Silverstone this weekend. Despite mixed weather conditions at the UK track, the Australian posted fastest times in all track sessions, and after dicing with Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso at the start of the race, maintained his leading position until the chequered flag.
Reigning World Champion Lorenzo highsided on lap nine – his first DNF in two seasons and an accident repeated by Marco Simoncelli two laps later – while Dovizioso maintained his form to finish second.
The third step of the podium was completed by a heroic Colin Edwards, who only broke his collarbone a week earlier. Bennetts-supported Cal Crutchlow was unable to start his home race, after breaking his collarbone during practice.
