Australian Casey Stoner cruised to another comfortable victory at this weekend’s MotoGP in Barcelona.
Despite Jorge Lorenzo taking the holeshot, Repsol Honda rider Stoner was able to reclaim the lead on lap two. However, Lorenzo maintained a strong position to finish second – a mere two seconds behind Stoner at the chequered flag. Ben Spies laid claim to the final podium position, finishing a further two seconds behind team-mate Lorenzo.
Despite a relatively bad start off the grid, Bennetts-supported MotoGP rookie Cal Crutchlow fought up the pack to clinch seventh position overall. It is so far his best placing of the 2011 season.
Dani Pedrosa was unable to start the fifth round of the 2011 championship after breaking his collarbone during the last event. He was joined on the sidelines by Colin Edwards, who suffered a similar injury during Friday’s practice session.
