Casey Stoner may have already been crowned the 2011 MotoGP Champion, but that did not make him any less determined to clinch victory at the closing round of the series at Valencia today.
From pole position, Stoner pulled out a ten-second lead. However, the Australian clearly began to struggle when the rain intensified towards the end of the race. A tense battle with Ben Spies and Andrea Dovizioso ensued – with Stoner clinching victory over Spies by just 0.015sec.
Meanwhile, Bennetts-supported Cal Crutchlow achieved his best MotoGP finish to date – an impressive fourth placing – along with the “rookie of the year” title.
