Lorenzo victory at Silverstone

Posted: 17 Jun 2012

Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo weaved his way through the field from a fifth place qualifying position to clinch victory at the British round of the MotoGP series at Silverstone today.

Despite battling with reigning champion Casey Stoner, Lorenzo managed to take the lead at the halfway point of the race and maintained his position until the chequered flag. Lorenzo's win propels him to the top of the championship standings with a healthy 25-point advantage.

After he was passed by Lorenzo, Stoner began to struggle to keep pace and came under fire from hs Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa and Alvaro Bautista. However, young Australian Stoner, who anounced his retirement from racing earlier in the season, managed to keep a firm grip on his second place postion until the finish line.

Meanwhile, Bennetts-supported Cal Crutchlow had a fantastic ride at his home Grand Prix – overcoming the odds and riding with a broken and dislocated left ankle, which he sustained during practice. The Brit rider began the race from 20th (last) position on the grid but managed to clinch a well-deserved sixth place at the chequered flag!
