Home victory for Lorenzo

Jorge Lorenzo has increased his advantage at the top of the overall world championship standings with another fantastic victory on home soil at Catalunya.

Although Dani Pedrosa led from the first lap, Spaniard Lorenzo made his pass on lap seven to lead the race. A battle between the two then ensued, with each rider swapping and changing positions at the front of the field – both desperate to clinch the win in front of their home fans.  

However, it was Lorenzo who went on to win the race by almost seconds, celebrating his victory with his fan club and the Yamaha President. Pedrosa clinched his first rostrum finish this season, while Tech-3 rider Andrea Dovizioso claimed third.

A fourth place finish by Casey Stoner means that he is now 20 points from championship leader Lorenzo, while Bennetts-supported Cal Crutchlow finished in a positive fifth position.
