The bike world has enjoyed a real treat today; with info about numerous new models for 2015 pouring out of the INTERMOT show in Cologne. Kawasaki unveiled their revolutionary 296bhp Ninja H2R, BMW rolled out an all new S1000RR, Suzuki lifted the covers off a naked GSX-R (GSX-S) and Ducati finally unveiled their Scrambler. One manufacturer to remain suspiciously quiet however, was Yamaha.
The Japanese manufacturer released details of a ‘Moto Cage’ version of the MT-07 and a new XJR1300 yesterday but it seems their showpiece will wait until the Milan Motorcycle show in November.
A new R1 has been on the cards for not just months but almost two years and today Yamaha has given the biggest hint yet that the next generation of their flagship sportsbike will surface this year, on the 3rd November if we’re being precise.
The 37 second clip opens with what appear to be various design sketches before moving on to show a silhouette of what Yamaha call a ‘new state-of-the-art motorcycle’.
If this is the new R1, which we’ve reason to believe it is, it will mark an entirely new era for the iconic litre sports bike.
Yamaha say this teaser is just ‘Episode One’ so there will be plenty more to see before the big unveil at EICMA on 3rd November.
