Schwantz reunited with ’94 Lucky Strike Suzuki at Donington

Fresh from the Suzuka 8 hour race where he covered exactly zero metres thanks to an early crash from his teammate, Kevin Schwantz will be reunited with his 1994 Suzuki RGV500 aka XR84 Lucky Strike #1 race bike at Donington Park’s Classic Motorcycle Festival this weekend (8-10th August 2014).

Kevin Schwantz returns to Donington Park for the Classic Motorcycle Festival20 years since his last win at Donington, which came the year after his 500cc World Championship win, the 50 year old will be demonstrating a number of bikes at the second annual Classic Motorcycle Festival as well as autograph sessions and ‘An evening with Kevin Schwantz’ on the Saturday night.

A huge range of machinery will be displayed both on and off track throughout  the weekend including historical racing bikes, spanning from GP bikes, Superbikes, two strokes, four strokes, multi cylinder and single cylinder. The brand-new Hesketh 24 bike will also be making a public appearance and is due to be ridden by the former motorcycle and truck racer turned TV commentator, Steve Parrish.

Among the beautfilful machinery in action or on display is an ex-Joey Dunlop Honda SP1, two ex-Kenny Roberts GP Yamaha's, Sete Gibernau's MotoGP Ducati, Frankie Chilli and Carl Fogerty's 998's as well as a stunning Honda 6.

Schwantz told Bike Social, “I’m really looking forward to riding at Donington again. It’s a place where I’ve won so many Grand Prix and Transatlantic Match races, and I have great memories of racing there. It goes without saying that it holds a very special place in my heart, as do all the English fans.”

  4. National Association for Bikers with Disability (NABD) will showcase some of the adapted bikes and what assistance they can offer

Sammy Miller will also showcase bikes from his world famous Museum, which will include a 500 GP Konig similar to the one raced by Kim Newcombe. Team Collins and Russell Kawasaki are also attending for the first time, bringing their collection of historic racing machines, such as the ex-Hurley Wilvert Kawasaki H2R two stroke triple.

Donington Park’s Managing Director, Christopher Tate, said: “Following the overwhelming success of Donington Park’s first Classic Motorcycle Festival last year, I have no doubts that this year’s event promises to be an even bigger spectacle.
