Among a host of upgrades and refreshes, the big story to come from Yamaha at Intermot today was the significant engine and chassis changes to the FJR1300A and the FJR1300AS sport tourers. A refined sports chassis is teamed with an uprated engine that benefits from an electronic control system that is claimed to be the most advanced in the motorcycle industry.
The Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle monitors the rider’s throttle action and feeds it into the ECU to deliver the best power characteristics, increasing the overall power output by 2.0kw. Traction control – that can be switched on and off –and a cruise control system are also welcome additions on both models.
The biggest technical innovation is reserved for the FJR1300AS, which becomes the first Yamaha production motorcycle to benefit from a new electronic suspension adjustment mechanism. The latest sports tourer also gets a clutchless gearchange system.
