The kind marketing-types at Yamaha have earned a pre-Christmas box of luxury mince pies or something equally as nice. Why? The long-term loan of a 2012 R1 for us to use at events across the country.
And while we’re in the generous festive mood, another pre-Christmas box of luxury mince pies should also be carrier-pigeoned to the BLD Group for their superb 50th anniversary-esque paint job complete with ‘Xirallic’ finish...or, in English and much easier to pronounce; ‘sparkly’.

The bike has since been used as a focal point at a series of Bennetts:Live events, for a number of photo and video shoots, stood proudly outside Head Office welcoming guests plus ridden by the safe, capable and reliable hands of Mr. Toseland and his fellow Bennetts ambassadors Mr Crutchlow and Mr Redding at three Bennetts Ultimate Track Days’ and two Thundersprints.
In September, after two years of hard graft, Yamaha and Bennetts donated the bike to Riders For Health and it raised over £12,000 thanks to an eBay auction and a Government pledge. We shed a tear as our trusty steed was put out to pasture and delivered to her new owner.
Cue loud, fast music and flashy graphics.
Her replacement is the very cool, slightly sleeker and more stylish 2012 model equipped with her own party piece; traction control. The new bike landed at Head Office this week, has settled into her new space outside reception and now awaits her first tasks and KPI’s which may well include a Christmas Toy Run in December, plus plenty of excuses to nip out on Bike Social business of course.
