WSBK, Misano & IOM TT

Posted: 12 Jun 2012

It was yet another historic weekend for motorcycle racing…

We heard it on the grapevine:

“Predictions are circulating that the weather will stop play at the TT tomorrow meaning that the Senior TT race will be pushed to Sat #IOMTT

And, we kept the Twitter population up-to-date with pictures of the stunning views from the Isle of Man covered in a blanket of rain http://pic.twitter.com/93kDF4KA

However:

“On the other hand the sun is shining at Misano – getting ready for the #WSBK http://pic.twitter.com/QQGnWxkT

Unfortunately, the weather in the Isle of Man showed no improvement and racing was postponed. We found out that:

“We've heard TT legend John McGuiness is happy with the race being postponed as he didn't want a late start in damp conditions #IOMTT

We also kept everyone up-to-date with the latest news from the Isle of Man with news about racing postponements and grid positions for when the races finally kicked off..

Bennetts Biking Dreams winner Gavin (@WirralBikers) was at this year’s IOM and tweeted us pictures of his adventures and the people he met.

John McGuiness headed out on track with the other Clerks of the course to give his opinion as to whether the racing should go ahead…

“Biker Petition Lightweight will go ahead at 6:30pm - no Senior TT though #IOMTT

We also brought you the result:

“Ryan Farquhar won the BikerPetion.co.uk Lightweight race with a 30-second gap! Great to see them out on track! #IOMTT

History was made when the Senior TT was cancelled for the first time since 1907. Many of the fans were disappointed but understood that rider safety was paramount.

However, in Italy, the WSBK riders were firing on all cylinders ahead of the race:

“It's Friday lunchtime - game time! Which of the #WSBK teams have this in their garage?! Must be feeling patriotic! http://pic.twitter.com/JKyH4P03

And a few people thought it would be Crescent Suzuki: @Deano1802 @Vickster @BikerAmes

However:

“We can reveal that the queen was in the @BMWMotorrad garage - the team of @realleonhaslam believe that it brings them luck. We hope it does!”

Saturday didn’t start off too well for the KTM European Cup:

“The day hasn't started off well for the KTM European Cup over in Misano... the toilets have leaked in front of the paddock village... #WSBK

A wet Superpole brought some surprises with some ‘big’ names not making it out for the second 15-minute session:

“Speculation that Biaggi didn't know it was a wet Superpole in Misano - he was seen complaining to stewards after not making it through #WSBK

We asked you what your predictions would be for the race:

@weeyin13 said:

@bennetts_bike mmm could b a few surprises..no in order but I think Rea, Sykes and maybe even Jiggly Puff (Guilliano) hoping for Leon Haslam”

While Tom Sykes didn’t make it onto the podium this weekend, he may well have had other things on his mind:

“Congratulations to @therealtomsykes - we've heard he's getting married on Friday!”

@ValentinoMossy had ideas where Tom got his money from for the wedding:

@bennetts_bike @therealtomsykes wedding paid for by selling 5 Tissot watches on eBay!”

This weekend also brought the news that WSBK had added a new circuit to the calendar for next year:

“How exciting India’s Buddh International Circuit to join 2013 World Superbike calendar for March! #WSBK Interesting stuff...”
