MotoGP, Sachsenring & BSB, Oulton Park

Posted: 10 Jul 2012

Yet another week has flown by, which means one thing, racing time again!

On Friday we gave away signed Scott Redding caps to 10 lucky people on Facebook and Twitter for them to wear to support him at the next round at Mugello.

It's ?#Fridaygiveaway time! Just follow @bennetts_bike & RT before 3pm to be in with a chance to win one of the 5 signed Scott Redding caps!

Unfortunately for a number of riders, injuries meant that they could take part in this weekends racing:

Buchan wont be racing at @oulton_park this w/end he's been forced to delay his BSB debut due to suffering discomfort from a broken vertebrae

@peterhickman60 will replace @danlinfoot (injured: broken bones in hand) this weekend @oulton_park and most likely at Brands Hatch too ?#BSB

We provided our brilliant weather reports for the weekends racing at Oulton Park:

Guess what... @oulton_park is wet, wet, WET! pic.twitter.com/RlHnsdkA

Maybe we should become weather reporters?!

Unfortunately for some, this weather had some disastrous consequences:

British MotoStar championship leader Hedger had his no 1 engine destroyed during a very wet FP1 at Oulton this morning..

Stuart Easton was still battling with his injuries sustained at an earlier round:

Stuart Easton doesn't know if he'll be fit enough to ride at Oulton due to his right knee damaged at Silverstone last month.. ?#BSB

Oulton Park played host to a number of riders who were being given a chance to show what they have got:

Michael Robertson has been given a trial ride at Oulton by team owner Shaun Muir on a Swan Yamaha due to good results in SS600 at Knockhill

One of his fans, @ianwatson799 replied:

@bennetts_bike come on #michaelrobertson doing us scots proud. Good luck to him for this weekend!

Also exciting times for Patrick Jacobson and David Anthony:

Aussie David Anthony rejoins Doodson Motorsport Team at @Oulton_Park this weekend and will be racing on a Honda for the first time ever ?#BSB

New Yorker Patrick Jacobson is making his SS1000 debut this weekend on the bike Alastair Seeley took to 1st and 2nd place at NW200 this year

Alastair Seeley was in Oulton Park too

Alastair Seeley is wishing for the blooming rain to stop! http://yfrog.com/gybjxxxwj  #WetWetWet

@MissBethAndrews wondered what he was doing in the picture:

@bennetts_bike @weewizard34 he looks like you've caught him going for a crafty pee!

It was questionable whether Stuart Easton would even race this weekend:

Will Easton be racing at Oulton Park this weekend? He missed FP1 and was 8s off the pace of Brookes in FP2 + struggling with swollen knee

@Samg246 had his fingers crossed that he would:

@bennetts_bike Did you see the pics that @67Shakey posted last night of the staples in Easton's thigh? Nasty stuff, hope to see him tomorrow

And told us:

@bennetts_bike He had the staples removed last night in his motorhome! Take a look at Shakey twitter feed and you will see the pics

Unfortunately we had to report that:

Stuart Easton will NOT be racing this weekend due to his swollen knee. Keith Farmer will replace him in what's to be his 1st ever ?#BSB race

And we wish him a speedy recovery!

The bad weather made everyone think about safety, including BSB Championship contender Josh Brookes:

@JoshBrookes has said that BSB should follow the lead of MotoGP and make rear facing high illumination red lights in bad weather mandatory

Wouldnt be a bad idea and would give them all a bigger chance of seeing each otherwhat do you think?

Tommy Hill was of course racing and on top form, we wondered what exactly he was looking for in his helmet:

Just checking to see if there are any bugs in that helmet... ?#BSB pic.twitter.com/ad5zIFrY

He obviously didnt check well enough as the only logical explanation of him winning ALL THREE races were that there we bugs in his helmet which he wanted to get away from

Excellent job @tommyhill33 ?#HillHatrick

@DeeGunn knew he would do it:

@bennetts_bike @tommyhill33 Fantastic job, I had you down for a triple.

It was also a great weekend for Australian Dave Johnson:

Aussie David Johnson wins the British Superstock 1000 race at Oulton. His 1st win since a Dutch Superbike Championship race in 2006!

We found out the reason behind Jimmy Hill quitting racing for good:

The reason Jimmy Hill has quit racing is due to lack of available funds and a diminishing lack of desire to continue... ?#BSB

@DaveNeal was disappointed:

@bennetts_bike It's a shame too, he's super fast but been victim of slower riders with bigger sponsorship taking better rides :-(

Bennetts-backed rider Scott Redding was apparently a little annoyed:

Oh dear! @ianwheeler: Scott Redding just a tad frustrated with being taken out of the race on the opening lap today!? #naughtywords

Over at Assen we asked you to speculate what Bautista was talking about:

Hmm.. What is it Bautista wants us to keep quiet..? pic.twitter.com/JchvsSPi

@vickster1984 had her ideas:

@bennetts_bike sssh Im Jorges team mate next year!!

@Fireblade_929

He's saying "Quit saying I look like a young @Jimwhit69" RT@bennetts_bike: What is it Bautista wants us to keep quiet?

There was, as always, great support for Cal Crutchlow:

Come on Cal, make us proud today!!

@AoB32

@bennetts_bike Cal makes me proud every time he chucks his leg over the bike!

@Rickards1972

@bennetts_bike He always does us proud!!!

Cal, still recovering from his broken ankle at Silverstone, battled with team-mate Dovizioso throughout the race to finish in eighth place. Usually calm and collected Casey Stoner dramatically crashed out of the battle for first with Pedrosanail biting stuff!

So after another weekend of heart stopping action we are going to settle back and relax for five days until the racing action kicks off again with the Moto GP in Mugello
