Kawasaki's new superlight Ninja 250SL

Kawasaki has introduced two new entry-level 250cc machines to its range at the EICMA show in Milan this morning in the shape of the Ninja 250SL and Z250SL.

Essentially, they are two versions of the same bike; one faired, one unfaired. Both are powered by a 249cc 4 stroke fuel-injected, liquid-cooled 4-valve single cylinder engine producing around 28bhp mounted in an original trellis frame, which Kawasaki say offers sporty performance in a slim, lightweight and compact package.

The Ninja 250SL is a ‘lighter, racier’ alternative to the Ninja 250, weighing in at 151kg, 20kg less than the Ninja 250 model and smaller and less powerful than the Ninja 300.

The Z250SL presents an ideal entry-level sports naked, lighter and cheaper than the more powerful Z300 twin also unveiled by Kawasaki today in Milan. Again lightweight, the naked model weighs just 148kg.

When we quizzed Kawasaki as to why they’d release a naked Z250SL and Z300 at the same time, we were told: “The Z250SL fits the entry-level market and physical size/price point. When you sit on and ride both you really appreciate the vast difference”.

Both models are available with ABS from what Kawasaki say is the ‘world’s smallest ABS unit. The Ninja 250SL will be available in Lime Green and Pearl Stardust white while the Z250SL will be available in Lime Green and Ebony.
