Mum proves biking can be practical

Trading four wheels for two often seems impractical, particularly for busy mums, but Sabine Bailey is proving otherwise after swapping her car for a motorcycle as the only form of transport for her and eight-year-old son, Connor. And life for the pair just got easier after Bennetts Biking Dreams fulfilled her wish for extra storage in the shape of new panniers for her BMW F650GS.

Mum proves biking can be practical

The keen biker from East Yorkshire refused to be put off running her everyday errands on a bike, but the extra storage space is of paramount importance to make regular use of the BMW practical for her and Connor. After entering her dream at, Sabine couldn’t believe her luck when she received the surprise gift package, which also contained £250 of Argos vouchers to buy things to fill her panniers with!

Sabine said: “I’m absolutely passionate about my bike, but as a single mum I obviously had to think practically when making the decision of whether to sacrifice that or my car. I decided that biking can be practical as an everyday form of transport and, in some ways, offers far more benefits than four wheels. Clearly, riding at this time of year is more enjoyable than it might be in winter but not enough people in the UK use motorcycles, and certainly not enough women!”

Bennetts Marketing Director, Hannah Squirrell, added: “The fact that Sabine chose to sacrifice her car to use her motorcycle everyday meant that she definitely ticked the box of demonstrating a passion for biking. As a bike insurance specialist, we understand all riders are different and use their bikes for many purposes, so being able to help Sabine make her daily ride a bit easier was a pleasure.”

Bennetts, the UK's No 1 bike insurance specialist*, launched its Biking Dreams campaign in 2010 and gives all motorcycle enthusiasts – policyholder or not – the opportunity to have their biking dreams come true. Over 60 dreams – from new kit to huge adventures – have been granted to date. For full details, please visit For every dream entered at, Bennetts will donate £1 to the Bennetts Better Biking Fund, the proceeds of which will be donated to UK motorcycle-related causes.
