Spy shots of Suzuki’s brand-new GSX-S1000, revealed here, show the new bike in a complete and production-ready condition, ready for launch later this year.
The photographs were taken during Suzuki’s promotional shoot in Los Angeles and the bike is expected to be officially unveiled at the forthcoming INTERMOT trade show in Cologne at the beginning of October.
The GSX-S1000 will fit into the already super-competitive naked sports (or streetfighter, whichever you prefer) bike category which has exploded over the past 12 months with all the major manufacturers represented, many of them have released new models during this time.
The swinging arm is taken straight from the GSX-R1000, as are the Brembo brakes although ABS is clearly visible on the new, naked version. Other similarities are the position of the foot pegs and the idenitical under belly exhaust system although the silencer on the GSX-S1000 is a shorter, stubby-style. Noticable differences include the raised handle bars, revised fuel tank and tail tidy.
We expect Suzuki’s new machine to fit in between the price of the Kawasaki Z1000 and Honda CB1000R, which should place it around £9,450. Power-wise we’re expecting around 160bhp from a version of the 999cc 4-cylinder engine as used in the GSX-R1000.
