A black three-quarter length jacket that from a distance could easily have come out of a High Street fashion store. Smart enough for any city gent to wear over a three piece suit, the Ermes jacket from Tucano Urbano is a jacket that has more uses than just protecting you on two wheels –versatility is very much the name of the game.
Even close up it is difficult to detect its primary use as the outer shell is made from a smart Oxford polyamide material which is breathable as well as waterproof thanks to taped seams. Despite its dressy looks it has a fair level of abrasion resistance and inserted in the usual places is D30 armour which apart from the back protector comes as standard. (A pocket is provided for one though.)
Clever reflective strips providing night riding safety can be tucked out of sight when off the bike and for hot days there are numerous ventilation panels around jacket as well as poppers to ensure a tighter fit when on the bike.
For colder days a zip in thermal lining goes over the 3D Polyester lining that even has a lumber support velcroed in place for riding comfort. Believe it or not the jacket has 13 pockets internal and externally, making it an ideal jacket when travelling on planes!
And that really is the beauty of this jacket – its versatility. It is the sort of thing you put onto ride to a station or airport as I have done and then it doubles as an ordinary coat. On the bike it has proved comfortable and reasonably waterproof up to 2 hours of heavy rain and expands and contracts well depending on what the weather is doing at the time thanks to all the zips and poppers.
It may not be the flashiest item on the rack but it is subtle and has proved itself time and time again as a useful addition to the riding wardrobe so comes with a big recommendation that says it is well worth £219.99 price tag (Inc. VAT) from your local Tucano Urbano dealer. www.tucanourbano.com
