MannOnABike Web editor of Bike Social. Been riding bikes since he was four-years-old. Fast and smooth road rider, just about hangs on in a track day quick group.

They’re so comfortable I’d happily wear them around the house like a protective pair of slippers.  The S-Speed motorcycle boots from Italian brand, TCX, have been on test with us here at Bike Social for a couple of months and they’ve ticked every box. They’ve got plenty to live up to as my last pair of Sidi’s lasted a highly credible 8 years.

Understated, comfortable and protective, what more would you need?

OK, TCX  are not as premium as the likes of Dainese or AlpineStars but that’s possibly down to boots being their bread and butter. They offer a handful of other products but even their slogan reads ‘Focus on Boots’. They can be seen in the racing paddock with sponsored riders including reigning World Supersport and British Superbike Champions, Sam and Alex Lowes, current Moto2 World Championship leader, Tito Rabat as well as Speedway superstar Chris Holder and most of the Husqvana Enduro Team.

These sport boots are priced superbly, offer immense comfort, are easy to get on and off, they’re understated, offer a reassuringly full level of protection and come highly recommended.

They fasten on the inside of each foot by a zip fitted with a double-sided Velcro tab which keeps the zip in place when closed. The zip doesn’t expose the ankle/foot when undone, instead, behind it lies waterproof material. The closed and Velcro-fastened zip is then covered by a Velcro flap which has plenty of sticking area depending on how tight you want the boots to fasten.

Inside the boot and the top two inches have a breathable, padded membrane while the front shin area has a strong and reasonably bulky Polyurethane plate – this may prevent the tighter fitting Gortex or armoured jeans to fit over the top should that be your preferred style.

The toe sliders are replaceable by two small Allen key screws and the standard versions are also made from Polyurethane. While the mono compound sole comes with a 10mm heel.

Toe sliders; one careful owner

TCX’s trump card is their TCS (Torsion Control System) where three pivot points on either side of the ankle and above the heel contribute to flexibility when walking, changing gear etc. They protect the ankle from “unnatural movement” according to the User Manual.

TCX TCS TTFNAh, it all becomes clear

The boots look and feel very well made and they’re not too chunky when using the bike controls. I wear a UK size 10 usually but found the 10.5 (EU45) a better fit so do consider your sizing if you’re ordering on-line.
