Frenchman Johann Zarco topped the timesheets in this week’s Moto2 test at Jerez ahead of Britain’s Sam Lowes and defending champion Tito Rabat.
Zarco’s fastest lap, set on the final day, was 1’42.121, just 0.044 seconds quicker than Lowes in second place. The Briton’s pace was all the more impressive considering he was testing a selection of new parts with his Speed Up team, including the aluminium swing arm he’d been asking for most of last season.
Axel Pons set the fourth fastest time for the AGR Team ahead of Luis Salom and Sandro Cortese. Jonas Folger was seventh ahead of Lorenzo Baldassarri with Alex Rins and Thomas Luthi rounding out the top ten, which was covered by just 0.9 secs.
Moto3 World Champion Alex Marquez continues to gets to grips with Moto2 and the Marc VDS team, he set the sixteenth fastest time just 1.13 seconds off Zarco’s fastest lap.
Moto2 Valencia Test Combined Times
The Moto3 boys were also out in action, rookie Fabio Quartararo impressed once again by posting the fastest time (1’45.580) ahead of Mahindra’s Jorge Martin and Briton Danny Kent, who switches to Honda power this season.
Niccolo Antonelli was fourth fastest ahead of John McPhee, whose time of 1.46.306 saw two Brits in the top five. Spaniard Jorge Navarro was sicth ahead of Karel Hanika and Hiroki Ono.
Juanfran Guevara and Francesco Bagnaia rounded out the top ten.
Both Moto2 and Moto3 categories now have just one more test, again in Jerez, ahead of the 2015 season kicking off in Qatar at the end of next month.
