Britain’s Rory Skinner enjoyed a strong home Grand Prix this weekend as he took his best results of the season in the Red Bull Rookies Cup.
Racing at home on the international stage for the first time, Skinner qualified 19th for the two races but wasn’t going to let that phase him as he took to the track aboard his 250cc KTM.
Under the glorious Silverstone sunshine, Skinner fought hard to take tenth place in Saturday’s first race – his best result of the season.
Unfortunately the weather was a little different for the rookies’ second outing on Sunday. The rain continued to hammer down during the race, as Skinner fought through to better his Saturday result by crossing the line in an impressive fourth place.
“As soon as I saw the conditions I was a bit nervous,” said Skinner after the race. “I don’t have any experience of this bike or the wet tyres so I told myself I would just try to stay on as I’d already had a good result on the Saturday. I was quite surprised as I felt really good and was able to pick the riders in front of me off, a few of them crashed which helped a little but it was still very difficult!
“I’m so pleased to have taken this result racing at Silverstone. I might be from Scotland but I’ve not done that much riding in the rain so I’m really happy with the result.”
