Jorge Lorenzo will remain with the Movistar Yamaha team in 2016, despite speculation he could be set for a move to Ducati after a steady start to the season.
The Spaniard signed a two-year contract with the Japanese manufacturer part way through last season, but the deal included an option for both parties to terminate the agreement early if they so desired.
However, after just three races of the 2015 season both Yamaha and Lorenzo have decided they’re happy to continue into next season.
“I can assure you that and I can assure the MotoGP paddock that Jorge will be with Yamaha for 2016”, said Yamaha Racing boss Lin Jarvis. “We have spoken together already and it’s already clear, he wants to stay with us, we want to stay with him, it’s done, so Jorge will be with us this year and next. It’s a fact”.
Lorenzo has had a tough start to the season; he is yet to finish on the podium after two fourth places in Qatar and Austin and fifth in Argentina.
