It’s been more than six months since John McGuinness stormed to that sensational Senior TT victory but it’s once again the talk of the internet after a video of his opening lap was posted online.
The Isle of Man TT press office posted the full 17 minute ten second lap on their YouTube channel showing McGuinness tearing around the 37.73mile mountain course with a staggeringly-fast average speed of 131.850mph from a standing start.
McGuinness went on to obliterate the lap record with a 132.701mph lap on his first flier, going on to win the race from James Hillier and man-of-the-moment Ian Hutchinson.
“I knew I had to be sharp from the start,” McGuinness told Bike Social. “If you get to your first pit board and it says P5 minus whatever it knocks you. This time I saw P1 and thought ‘the job is on’ and went from there. I’m always weak up to Glen Helen, so I focused on being stronger, I went in deeper, I was harder on the brakes and it worked.”
Among those tweeting about the first lap video is nine-times Grand Prix world champion Valentino Rossi, who said McGuinness had ‘two big balls’ when sharing the clip with his 4 million followers.
