Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne fends off Christian Iddon for race one honours at Brands Hatch.

The five-time champion converted his pace from qualifying to dominate the opening race of the weekend and cut the lead to 21-points in the championship to Leon Haslam.

Shakey said: “That’s all I can do. The pressure's completely off me.”

“I’m just trying to enjoy riding my bike for the final time this year. The bike felt great in that race and with two races to go tomorrow there’s still a lot of points to play for.”

Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon added to his tally of podiums this season finishing in second place with Josh Brookes third.

Championship leader Leon Haslam had to settle for fourth place after fending off a hard charging James Ellison (fifth) and Jason O’Halloran (sixth).

Peter Hickman, Lee Jackson, Bradley Ray and Richard Cooper rounded out the top ten.

Race 2 gets underway at 12.45 tomorrow.
