BSB Brands Hatch GP - Race 2 Results

BMW Brands Hatch

Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne continued his dominance at Brands Hatch with a convincing second win at his home circuit.

The Sittingbourne based rider set a blistering pace out-front to break away from the rest of the field and take his 82nd British Superbike victory.

Championship rival Josh Brookes had to break the lap record to keep with the Ducati rider, until a mistake at Surtees on lap nine saw an early end to the ex-champions race weekend.

McAMS Yamaha’s James Ellison made the most of a great start from the second row on the grid to take the second spot on the podium, with Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon finishing third.

Peter Hickman repeated his performance in race one to finish fourth ahead of Bournemouth Kawasaki teammates Leon Haslam and Luke Mossey.

Jason O’Halloran, Bradley Ray, Michael Laverty and Jake Dixon rounded out the top ten.

Shakey said: “I made that race a lot easier for myself. I kept my concentration throughout and made sure I hit all my markers. It’s important to keep the pressure on and this stage in the season, so mega happy to take the double here.”

“I’m back off to Spain tomorrow to continue my training and we’ll then head to Thruxton full of confidence.”

Byrne now has a 29-point lead in the championship as we head to Thruxton in two weeks’ time, 4th-6th August.
