Checa claims first victory of 2011 at Phillip Island
The opening round of the 2011 World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island saw Carlos Checa clinch the win comfortably. The Spaniard dominated the circuit, passing initial leader Eugene Laverty in the early stages and holding his position for the remainder of the race. 

Max Biaggi and Leon Haslam were left to pick up the remaining podium positions at the chequered flag.

Checa clinches double win at Phillip Island
Carlos Checa’s second stint at the Phillip Island circuit rivaled his first victory as he took a second win of the day, taking his total wins in the World Superbike Championship to seven.

The fight for second place between Max Biaggi and Marco Melandri was contentious, with the pair continuously dicing for position. However, Biaggi was the eventual victor, completing his second podium win of the day. Melandri clinched third place overall.
