Stoner victorious

The opening round of the 2011 MotoGP series was clinched by Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner – who had battled for much of the Qatar race with team-mate Dani Pedrosa. However, Spaniard Pedrosa, who was still struggling with an injury sustained at Motegi during 2010, was unable to keep the pace and had to settle for third place at the chequered flag. Reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo finished in second position.

Meanwhile, seven-times GP champion Valentino Rossi also seemed to struggle during the season opener, eventually crossing the line in seventh position and more than 16 seconds behind victor Stoner.  

Bennetts-supported Cal Crutchlow’s debut race in the GP class resulted in a respectable 11th place finish – despite suffering from an injured finger.
