Showdown set to continue at Silverstone

The title fighters

The second round of the British Superbike Championship showdown kicks off this weekend at Silverstone and it’s bound to be a thriller following the disqualification of Alex Lowes in the second race at Assen.

If we’re treated to two races similar to those at Assen this weekend at Silverstone (perhaps without the crash drama) it should be action packed. Shane Byrne leads Alex Lowes in the championship chase by just one point, with James Ellison creeping behind them twenty-one points in arrears.

Last year at Silverstone saw two epic races which saw the making of young Alex Lowes as he took his first and then second ever BSB wins in one weekend. Lowes has won five out of the last six races and if he hadn’t been disqualified in Assen it’d be the job lot. It'd be hard to bet against him...

However, Byrne will be hungry after being knocked off last time in Assen. The Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki man hasn’t won in seven races and knows full well this isn’t good enough if he’s to take his fourth British Superbike title.

Josh Brookes has been having a tough time of it recently; he sits twenty three points behind the leader and hasn’t been on the podium since the first race at Cadwell. The Aussie has a strong record at Silverstone though; he won there in 2011 and was on the podium last year and he’ll be out for two wins if he’s to catch up with Shakey and Lowes.

Although if Assen is anything to go by, expect the unexpected and anything can happen – it’s BSB!
