RACE 1 – Hill dominates opening race despite rain
On form Swan Yamaha rider Tommy Hill made a big play for pole during qualifying at the return event at the Cheshire circuit but lost out to the narrowest of margins to Hopkins.

In wet conditions, Byrne took the lead unaware of riders already falling by the wayside due to the sodden track. Hopkins stole the lead on lap 4 but it was short-lived when he slid off the bike going into Lodge.

Bryne took up the mantle of race leader as the conditions worsened, with yet more chasing riders coming to grief. The HM Plant Honda rider failed to extend his lead and was caught and passed by Hill, who managed to string consistent fast (for the conditions) laps to the very end, where he finished some 5.4sec clear of Josh Brookes, who had also caught and passed Byrne.

Compounding Brynes obvious dismay was veteran Michael Rutter, who chased and also went by the sodden Byrne on the very last lap. Gary mason and his MSS Colchester Kawasaki wrapped up the day’s racing with fifth place.

With rain coming down harder than ever, the circuit conditions worsened and the event was cancelled. The postponed second race was due to be rescheduled at the next available opportunity, event timing permitting.
