Guy Martin is one of the most popular and unique road racing characters and the lorry mechanic turned TT racer and TV star will be back on our screens again soon for not one but two new TV series later this year!
Until then Channel 4 are producing three 7-minute ‘Shorts’ to whet your appetite. Titled ‘Guy Martin’s Passion for Life’, the first in the three-part internet-based series features the Tyco Suzuki rider’s very own prized procession; his 27-litre Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. We see the magnificent piece of British engineering being wheeled out of his shed before the 1,600bhp, gallon-a-minute engine is fired up.
The engine used in the WWII Spitfire weighs in at over a tonne and Guy started it up last year inside his workshop but it took off destroying everything in its path leaving Guy, “probably the most scared I’ve ever been.”
Here’s a link to Channel 4’s website which hosts the show:
A show insider told Bike Social, “There will be another couple of films uploaded over the course of the next 2-3 weeks. The other films will look at other aspects of Guy's favourite things - so you'll see him at this year's TT and also working at his truck yard. He's very candid in each of them.”
Also on the horizon is a documentary due for transmission on Channel 4 in October featuring a two-year restoration project of a Spitfire followed by the second series of Speed due over the Winter, also on Channel 4.
The first series of Speed was broadcast back in January of this year and featured Guy using his engineering passion to ride a bicycle at 112mph, hydroplane a motorcycle, fly a human-powered bike and set the fastest recorded speed on a toboggan.
The 32-year old from North Lincolnshire earned two more podiums at the 2014 Isle of Man TT and will be appearing at the Classic Isle Of Man TT this weekend on a Manx Norton.
