It’s hard to believe that the Monster is 20 years old… until you see Ducati’s brand new 2014 Monster 1200 (and 1200 S model) – possibly the manufacturer’s most attractive Monster ever. The new machines represent the next generation of this iconic family, combining 20 years of genuine Monster tradition with the latest technology, including the second generation superbike-derived Testastretta 11° DS engine, industry benchmark TFT instrumentation and best-ever ergonomics.
The 2014 Monster 1200 S boasts 145hp and 92ft-lb of high-accelerating torque, all within a well-designed chassis weighing 182kg (dry weight). The new machine also features high-spec brakes, suspension, single-sided swingarm and lightweight wheels, eight-level traction control, three-level ABS and three-level Ride-by-Wire into Ducati’s user-friendly, press-button Riding Modes.
In addition, the new Monster’s larger fuel tank gives an even more muscular appearance, while the compact headlamp (according to Ducati) creates the overall silhouette of a powerful bull ready to charge! The clean and minimal handlebar area stays true to the Monster’s traditional character, while the tinted, transparent master cylinder reservoirs add a distinct quality to the overall finish. The Monster 1200 is available in Ducati red with red frame and black wheels, while the Monster 1200 S is also available in the striking scheme of white with bronze-coloured frame and glossy black wheels.
As well as the new flagship models, the 696 and premium mid-range 796 Monsters continue to provide an entry-level option for those wishing to join the world of Ducati – their stylish Trellis frames, excellent chassis components and Desmodromic engines provide the unmistakable sound and character the Monster is renowned for. Both the 696 and 796 are available in traditional Ducati red with red frames and black wheels, while the 696 also offers dark stealth or stone white with matte black frames and black wheels.
