The brand new campaign by THINK! Which aims to raise awareness of bikers on the road and make it safer when riders are out and about has been active for over a month now.
Starting in March and running until May, the spring campaign from the people at the Department of Transport wants road users to ‘see the person behind the helmet’ and has been launched in full force with spots on the radio, in petrol stations and even on TV.
It’s unbelievable to think, but 30 motorcyclists are killed or injured in accidents at junctions everyday. According to Neil Greig, IAM director for policy and research, there are far too many SMIDSY (Sorry mate, I didn’t see you) accidents on our roads today. ‘Failed to see’ is the top reason for serious crashes and research shows that drivers often miss smaller vehicles when they scan the road before a turn. A classic case of ‘look but didn’t see’.
All of us here at Bike Social want everyone who is on the road to be safe – especially motorcyclists. So keep an eye out for the campaign and tell some people about it, they might just THINK! a little bit more when they next come up to a junction…
