Naked bikes drive sales figures up in January

Yamaha's MT07 was the most popular bike over 125cc

New motorcycle sales figures rose for the thirteenth consecutive month in January, with an 11.3% increase on the same point last year.

2014 was the most successful year for new bike sales since 2009 and things show no sign of slowing up yet, with over 5,000 new bikes registered in January this year.

The increasing popularity of naked bikes continues to support the growth. There were 43% more nakeds registered in January this year compared to the same point in 2014.

Adventure Sport and Touring bikes also saw a significant rise with a 34.4% and 36% year-to-date growth respectively.

Sports bikes were the only category to see a fall in sales (except scooters and mopeds) with registrations down 19.1%. However, many of the model year-2015 sports bikes, including the Yamaha R1 & R3 and Ducati’s 1299, are yet to hit dealers.

Honda’s PCX-125 was once again the best seller in January ahead of the ever-popular CBF-125. The best-selling bike above 125cc was Yamaha’s MT-07 ABS.
