BSB, Brands Hatch

Posted: 24 Jul 2012

And so, here we were with yet another racing weekend ahead of us. This time the British Superbikes were heading to Brands Hatch and the World Superbike boys were over in the Czech Republic. There was some moving and shaking this weekend, including: BSB rider Dan Linfoot headed over to ride for MSR-D-N in the World Supersport championship, Top of the 848 Championship rider Robbie Brown rode the new Panigale as a wild card in the World Superstock Championship and came 4th having never been on the bike or the track before and Guintoli, well…we won’t spoil the surprise on that one yet..

Winner of tickets to Brands Hatch, @Tiddy1969, was excited:

“Getting ready for #BSB courtesy of @bennetts_bike gonna be a good weekend come on @JoshBrookes & @tommybridewell dream team”

We heard some gossip from the Moto 2 paddock:

“The Aspar Team will be announcing shortly who is going to replace Toni Elias in #Moto2 - we hear it's going to be Jordi Torres...”

Rumours were rife in the Moto GP paddock too:

“So Dovi is giving Yamaha an ultimatum to give him a factory ride, but we hear Yamaha US are pushing to keep Spies... #MotoGP

And it was like a soap opera in the WSBK paddock:

“Allegedly Sylvain Guintoli is splitting with Liberty Ducati because they have run out of money, he will not be racing at Brno this weekend…”

Liberty issued a press statement blaming a ‘managerial misunderstanding’ for the split of the team. However a few hours later issued another:

“Here's today's #OddNews.. Liberty Racing has made a u-turn on Guintoli, now saying his results weren't good enough to justify investments...”

@LouisSuddaby23 echoed most peoples’ thoughts: “So a win at Assen wasn't good enough, lead rider in the championship? Rubbish, they're trying to dig themselves out of a hole.”

And it all got VERY heated:

“Two bits of gossip straight from the WBSK paddock... Apparently Guintoli was happy to fight it out with his team boss last night.. (cntd) ..and secondly, there are whispers that Guintoli is getting Hoppers' ride, potentially before the end of the season... #YouHeardItHereFirst

We wondered if:

“Liberty's Smrz has got something to prove this weekend?! He's 2nd in this morning's free practice session… #WSBK

@fzrexupru had a premonition: “Always goes well in quali at Brno, will go backwards in the race IMHO”

And he was right with Smrz finishing 10th in race one and 13th in race two.

It was a bad day for BSB hopeful Josh Brookes: LouisSuddaby23 echoed most peoples thoughts: lans for next year:

“Poor Josh Brookes crashed out on track and then the taxi bike taking him back to the paddock crashed too... #BadLuck

And for Haga:

“Naughty Haga…he's been issued a reprimand and warning for inappropriate behaviour + gestures to marshals at Oulton Park 2 weeks ago (cntd) Haga and his team have apologised. He's been given a 12 point penalty, 6 of which are suspended until the end of the year…#BSB

We were sad to hear the retirement of 23-year-old Freddie Russo from the sport:

“Freddie Russo is the latest to hang up his leathers despite being 14th in the Superstock 1000 series - because he's not enjoying it anymore!”

@Closer2TheHedge was also disappointed about it: “What a shame”

There was a: “Rumour in the #WSBK paddock today has it that there is not going to be a WSBK round at Portimao next year - apparently it's gone bust..!”

@ELStaples said: “Mmm, best take that one off the bucket list then!”

It was a busy weekend for BMW who held a press conference to explain their plans for next year after news broke of their ‘consolidation of operations’ for 2013:

“BMW #WSBK team confirm that Melandri and team will be part of the new factory team for 2013”

@ws1098 wondered: “just gone over half way they didn’t waste much time signing him makes me wonder if @realleonhaslam will get bmw ride next year”

We made the prediction that Tom Sykes would be adding to his : collection:Superpole:

“King of the fast laps @TheRealTomSykes tops the table in qualifying practice...will he get his 7th Tissot watch today?! #WSBK

Which he did…whatever shall he do with so many watches?!

And it was Shane ‘Shakey’ Bryne who took pole at Brands: “Here he is! The main man on pole position tomorrow :-) #BSB pic.twitter.com/iGqCkwfY

Conrad Tatue on Facebook had faith and said: “Can't beat shaky at brands”

Our very own sponsored rider, Kyle Ryde, got an early birthday present for his race bike: “Happy 15th birthday to @kyleryde for tomorrow! We hear he has a little extra horse power due to the original Keihen ignition being replaced.”

We asked you: “So come on race fans! What's been your favourite moment today?! #WSBK #BSB

@Glenn_Penfold  said: “personally for me it was watching @67Shakey 's delight at taking pole at his home circuit, but tough race with @tommyhill33”

@tayz_gpizzil was pleased to be where he was: “got to #BSB as I'm there :-)” ndy1975lanc agreed with him: "the WSBK paddock:

nd Guintolli, well...rld Superbike boys were over in the Czech Republic. Ther

We tweeted a picture of a very tired looking Jorge Lorenzo at a press conference and asked you to share what you thought was going through his mind: “Mind Reader: What do you think Lorenzo is thinking/ dreaming about? #MotoGP http://yfrog.com/nzmdsnpj”

@Big_GPro took a guess: “probs thinking oh shut up dani you boring git your sending me to sleep.”

And @tashafrench1969 thought it might be money related thoughts: “how to spend the huge wage packet he's just negotiated lol”

We woke up on race day to rain in Brno: “Where is this?……It's not Brands Hatch! pic.twitter.com/dplhrgZq

@jearle: “Oh Brno. What lovely weather you have.”

But then, as if by magic the sun came out 40 minutes before the race: “Hm wonder what this conversation is about? Sun emerging, 40 mins before the race, Pirelli guy and a rider...#WSBK pic.twitter.com/L8qwbdXK

The weather was beautiful at Brands Hatch, it seemed like the weather had decided to swap between the Czech Republic and England!

It seemed like race day was a day for the double win with both Melandri and Bryne taking the double in WSBK and BSB respectively: “Well @67Shakey has turned his poles into wins today - great result! #BSB

“What a great double victory for BMW and @MarcoMelandri33 - Great battle with @TheRealTomSykes for first place! #WSBK

It seems like the Italian rider had a novel way to celebrate his win too: “What would you do after a double #WSBK race win? @MarcoMelandri33 goes bowling with the team.. http://bit.ly/LIlInc

We wonder who won?!

Yet another race weekend complete and they seem to be getting even more exciting as the season goes on! With the Moto GP boys heading over to Laguna Seca there will be gossip a plenty which, rest assured, we shall ensure you know!
