"Cadwell Park was really good to be honest. My Bennetts Suzuki GSX-R was working really well and we were really strong. I felt comfortable from the first practice session, but we made some changes for Sunday and we found even more performance.
Qualifying was a little disappointing; I was second quickest in the first session and third fastest in Q2, but in the short run in Q3 I didn’t manage to make it onto the front two rows, which, around Cadwell, is really important. But I was still confident we could have two good races and knew we had good race-pace.
In the first race I got a good start, but I got stuck behind Richard Cooper, and I could see the front three getting away. In the end I made a pretty tight move into the hairpin after Hall Bends. I was able to bridge the gap to the podium fight, and had a good battle for third in the end, and just missed out on the last lap.
Race two was a bit similar, and again we had good pace, and fifth wasn’t a bad result. It would have been better to have been ahead of Peter Hickman, as he’s fighting for a Showdown place, but over the weekend I had a lot of our Showdown challengers behind us, so was able to make up some ground.
The results at Cadwell, while strong, actually made our Brands Hatch results even more disappointing, because we could had a win, third as a minimum, in race one there, and maybe another podium in race two. If we’d had those results, we’d be in the Showdown by now or very close to it.
But that’s racing. We’re performing really well as a team and really showing that we’re a front runner in this championship, but rueing the difficult start we had to the season.
Oulton Park is up next, and basically we have three races to get into the Showdown, and we need to be on that podium in every one. I have nothing to lose now, so I won’t be riding around, riding safe, and taking the points. We have to go all out for it."
