In this Privacy & Cookie Policy, "we", "us" and "our" means BISL Limited and "you" and "your" means the person who wishes to use the website.

Insurers pass information to the Claims and Underwriting Exchange Register run by Insurance Database Services Limited (IDS Ltd), the Hunter Database, run by MCL Software Ltd and the Motor Insurance Anti Fraud and Theft Register, run by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) to help us check information provided and also to prevent fraudulent claims. When we deal with your request for insurance, we may search these Registers and any other relevant registers. Under the conditions of your policy, you must tell us about any incident (such as an accident or theft) which may give rise to a claim. When you tell us about an incident, we will pass this information to the Registers and to any other relevant registers. You can ask us for more information about this.

  1. 5.     Motor Insurance Database

Information relating to your insurance policy will be added to the Motor Insurance Database ("MID") managed by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau ("MIB").

MID and the data stored on it may be used by certain statutory and/or authorised bodies including the Police, the DVLA, the DVLANI, the Insurance Fraud Bureau and other bodies permitted by law for purposes not limited to but including : 

i. Electronic Licensing

ii. Continuous Insurance Enforcement

iii. Law enforcement (prevention, detection, apprehension and or prosecution of offenders)

iv. The provision of government services and or other services aimed at reducing the level and incidence of uninsured driving.

If you are involved in a road traffic accident (either in the UK, the EEA or certain other territories), insurers and or the MIB may search the MID to obtain relevant information.

Persons (including his or her appointed representatives) pursuing a claim in respect of a road traffic accident (including citizens of other countries) may also obtain relevant information which is held on the MID.

It is vital that the MID holds your correct registration number. If it is incorrectly shown on the MID you are at risk of having your vehicle seized by the Police.

  1. 6.     Insurance Administration, Renewal and Claims Handling

Information you supply may be used for the purpose of insurance administration, renewal and claims handling by the insurer, its agents, re-insurers and your intermediary. In assessing any claims made, insurers may undertake checks against publicly available information such as Electoral Register, County Court Judgments, bankruptcy or repossession information. Information may also be shared with other insurers either directly or via those acting for the insurer such as Loss Adjusters or investigators.

BISL Limited, part of the BGL group of companies, which also trades as Dial Direct and Budget and other carefully selected companies may use your information to keep you informed by post, telephone, e-mail or other means of products and services which may be of interest to you. They may also contact you to conduct market research.

  1. 8.     Send to a Friend Option

If you provide details of a friend to whom an e-mail is to be sent about Bennetts you confirm the following:

  • That you have obtained the consent of your friend to pass your friends details to us and for your friend to receive the e-mail from us.
  • That you are happy for us to disclose your details as the person who asked that we send the e-mail to your friend.
  • We will not use that persons details for any marketing purposes.

In assessing your application/renewal, we may search files made available to us by Credit Reference Agencies. They may keep a record of that search. We may also pass to Credit Reference Agencies information we hold about you and your payment record with us. Credit Reference Agencies share information with other organisations, enabling applications for financial products to be assessed or to assist the tracing of debtors, or to prevent fraud. We may ask Credit Reference Agencies to provide a credit scoring computation. Credit scoring uses a number of factors to work out risks involved in any application. 4.2          If You are a Visitor to the Bike Social Site and You do not register to 'Create a Profile' We do not collect any personal information about You through the Bike Social Site, although We may track Your use of the Bike Social Site by using cookies if You consent (please see the section entitled 'Cookies' below).

5.1          Before You are able to create Your Profile and post Content to the Bike Social Site, You must provide Your name, a valid email address and the other mandatory personal information We indicate on the registration page within the Bike Social Site. There is also optional personal information You can fill in which will help to enhance Your experience.  Mandatory personal information is marked with an asterisk on the registration page.

5.2          When you create a profile on Bike Social the data that you provide will also be used to allow you to access other areas of the Bennetts website with the same username and password (Single Sign On). Before you use other areas of the Bennetts website you must read and agree to the Privacy & Cookie Policy for the relevant area of the website.  

5.3          We may use this personal information only for the purposes of:

5.3.1       administering Your Profile with the Bike Social Site;

5.3.2       keeping a record of the comments You make on the Bike Social Site so that we can, if necessary, identify whether You have complied with the Terms and Code of Conduct and otherwise for the administration and operation of the Bike Social Site;

5.3.3       asking You to participate in surveys and feedback relating to the Bike Social Site and for processing and analysing the results of surveys or feedback internally;

5.3.4       sending You Our Newsletter and other information regarding other products and services provided by Bennetts (including but not limited to Bennetts Insurance and Bennetts Classifieds) by e- mail, mail, telephone, SMS or other forms of transmission unless you have told us that you don’t to receive this information. You will be given an opportunity to select your marketing preferences which you register on the Bike Social Site; and

5.4         To help us improve the service we provided we may undertake market research and/or data analysis and we may use information provided in relation Bike Social or any other products or services that you may use with Bennetts (including but not limited to Bennetts Insurance or Bennetts Classified) for these purposes.

5.5        In some circumstances it may be necessary for some of your data to be processed outside of the European Economic Area where data protection safeguards are not as high as they are in the UK. Where this is necessary we will ensure that your personal information has the same protection as when it is processed in the UK.

6           How other Users and Visitors may see Your personal information

6.1        The Bike Social Site is a community for all users to share personal information. By ‘registering’ and ‘creating a profile’ the personal information You upload to the Bike Social Site through your profile page (i.e personal information, rides, points of interest, events, blogs, polls, photo galleries, video galleries, clubs, comments, ratings and further information) can be:

6.1.1    viewed by other users and visitors; and

6.1.2    added to by other registered users in the form of photos, videos, comments, shares and ratings.

6.2       When you upload materials to the Bike Social Site you will be given options regarding the privacy settings you wish to allocate to that material. You can review and amend your privacy settings at any time by logging in to Your account. If you become ‘mates’ with another user you will be able to see each others full profile page. If you are not ‘mates’ they will not be able to see all personal information on Your personal profile page.

6.3       We will ensure that Your personal information is managed on the Bike Social Site in accordance with the preferences You indicate in Your privacy settings.

7          Other sharing of Your personal information

7.1       It is of paramount importance to Us that We keep your data secure and confidential however there are limited situations where it may be necessary to share your personal information and these are set out below:

7.1.1     We may use third parties to process personal information on Our behalf. (For example, We may use a third party to provide Bike Social Site hosting services.) Where third parties process Your personal information on Our behalf, We will ensure that they have the necessary high standards of security in place so that your data is kept secure and only used in accordance with this Privacy and Cookie Policy.   

7.1.2      We will release Your personal information when We are required to do so for legal or regulatory purposes or as part of legal proceedings.

7.4         We may also disclose Your name and contact details to any third party who is claiming that any Content posted by You constitutes a violation their intellectual property rights, or of their right to privacy, although We will try to notify You first before doing this by using the contact details You have provided.

8            Changing or removing personal information
