Camier heading to MotoGP in 2014?

Posted: 28 November 2013

Is Camier set for MotoGP?

Just when you think the MotoGP silly season has finally drawn to a close, further rumours spark it up again, this time in regards to 2009 British Superbike Champion Leon Camier.

The Brit had been keen to re-sign with Paul Denning’s Crescent Suzuki WSBK outfit for 2014 but a last minute deal saw the Dorset-based squad sign 2013 runner-up Eugene Laverty instead. Following this Camier had been heavily linked with a return to the British Superbike series with the alternative option being a satellite Aprilia in World Superbikes.

According to Bike Social sources, however, Camier now allegedly has an unexpected MotoGP offer on the table from IODA Racing. The Italian squad had been in talks with Niccolo Canepa for the 2014 season and despite the twenty-five year old appearing on the 2014 GP entry list, he later announced he’s looking to move to World Superbikes.

Camier endured a difficult season in 2013, finishing eleventh in the standings despite missing a large number of races through injury. The twenty-seven year has eight World Superbike podiums to his name.

IODA Racing has yet to announce the machinery they’ll compete with in 2014, having used the Suter-BMW package for the last year. Rumour has it the squad could be close to clinching the Aprilia ART deal, placing further doubt on Paul Bird’s 2014 Grand Prix plans.
