Ducati create Paul Smart Scrambler!

Iconic colour and number for the Smart Scrambler

Paul Smart-replica Ducati Scrambler instantly sells out

Ducati has revealed a Paul Smart replica Ducati Scrambler.

Only 24 of the special limited-edition Paul Smart replica Ducati Scramblers were built by Thailand’s Ducati importer, and they all sold instantly to Ducati Asia's VIP customers. Thailand is a big market for Ducati.

Taking inspiration from Ducati racing hero Paul Smart, the Urban Enduro Scrambler was used as the base model for this customised 803cc air-cooled V-Twin bike. It features the same cool sea green frame, silver paintwork and no. 16 as the bike with which Smart has become synonymous.

Coolest Scrambler yet? We reckon so.
A new seat featuring a removable silver seat cowl, tail tidy and gold anodised forks appear to be the changes from the standard model along with the trademark frame colour of Smart's race bike.

The tank which lets you view the fuel through the side, just as on Smarty's race bike, is also a feature.

72-year old Smart shot to fame by winning the inaugural Imola 200 race back in 1972 beating a world class field including Giacomo Agostini, Phil Read and John Cooper on their full factory bikes.

Smart was riding for Ducati who were making their ‘big bike’ race debut that day with their 750SS and was only racing thanks to his wife, Maggie, sister of Barry Sheene, who brokered the deal after Ducati couldn’t get in touch with Smart directly.

He immediately became a Ducati legend and 34 years later in 2006, the Italians commemorated his victory with a factory-built, limited-edition Sport Classic. The air-cooled 992cc powered machine was designed by Pierre Terblanche who styled it on the Imola 200 winning machine. 2,000 were sold worldwide on that occasion, one of which raised $137,000 (£83,570) at a Bonham’s auction in January 2014.
