This chappy needs to take his bike test....

You can now view and share your motorcycle licence online as the DVLA moves towards scrapping paper licences.

From June 8, paper counterpart driving licences will become void, with motorists having to carry just the plastic part from there on in. Those riders on the older style (pre-1998) paper licence will continue as normal until their documents need renewing, when they will be issued with a photocard only.

Instead of on a piece of paper, your full details will now be stored online, including any penalty points incurred, and can be accessed from this Government website.

Should you need to share your licence, for example if an employer wanted to see it or you were heading out for a track day, you can generate a code which you can then hand to the third party giving them temporary access to view your documents online. This code can be shared by email, face-to-face, over the phone or over the phone.

Those with full paper licences can also use the online service.

While the Government is advising motorists to scrap their paper counterpart after June 8th, some riders have seen their motorcycle entitlement disappear following problems renewing their licence. Therefore, we’d suggest keeping hold of the paper part should you ever need to prove you’re entitled to ride a bike.
