The end for the motorcycle service books?
The end of motorcycle service books as we know them could be over as Kawasaki introduce a USB key to show your bike’s history.

The firm hopes its new USB key will become as much an important part of a bike’s history as that scraggy old oil-covered service book we know and love.

Anyone buying a new Kawasaki road bike from March onwards will get a unique ‘history key’ as part of the Kawasaki ownership package. It has stuff like motorcycle service history, dealer and customer added notes and such useful facts as recall information on it. It’s activated via the internet.

The key is not intended to replace the traditional service book but to create an easy to access and updateable reference for each Kawasaki, says the firm.

A Kawasaki spokesman said: “The USB stick could be a great way for both the owner and dealer to build up a digital history and have all the important information for a given machine in the same place.”
